Does a body wave work for hair that is already curly?

I have very curly hair and I just want to loosen the curl. I want the curls to be as loose as possible. I'm considering a large perm or a body wave. Does anyone know if either of those will work? If so, which one do you think will work better? Thanks!

Possible but you need to have this done in an upscale Salon with a person who specializes in hair textures. What you want is a redirection perm or a mild relaxer. The difference is a redirection perm(or texturizer- many nicer salons try to stay away from saying "perm" ) the method is to set the hair on super large rollers like 3" diameter and the apply solution etc. to give large loose bouncy curls. A mild relaxer will soften the curl you have already but you will keep you same shape pattern, just softer. These chemicals are not simple to use and the methods are complicated. There is a science to doing great hair and the better stylist are very educated and pay for this training themselves- that's why it costs more to go to high end salons. And not to scare you but if you try to do this yourself or go to a low end salon it is very possible that you could lose your hair or have it damaged so badly you'll have to cut it off. No matter what anyone may try and tell you there is no way to repair severely damaged hair other than removal.

yes it does. I have curly hair but I get a body wave to make it a little less curly and more manageable.I would say a body wave if you just want big loose curls with less frizz. A perm make my hair frizz because it is naturally curly.

Absolutely. It will work to regulate the curl in your hair, and make it more manageable. I recommend telling your stylist that you would like two sizes of rods in your hair though, because it makes for a much more natural looking wave.
