How do I soften and shine my very thick coarse colored LONG curly hair?

Please do not place an answer until you have read the entire question. I have tried hot oil treatments, leave in conditioners (including Paul Mitchell, Redkin and L'oreal). I have natural curly hair, that would be gray if I did not color it. It is past shoulder lenght and very thick. I get it trimmed on a regular basis. And condition it everyday. However, it still looks and acts like straw. What can I do to make it look shiny and feel soft?

I have a friend who had the same problem she spent loads of money on products that didn't work.

She uses olive oil now put on your hair and wrap in cling film leave for as long as possible the longer the better, if you do this regularly you will notice a big difference in your hair (we have in hers)

keep hot oil treating it, like do it every week. use aussie 3-minute-miracle, too it made my cruls seems stronger. and, when you get your hair colored, just get the roots colored, you know, they CAN do that.....

aussie 3-minute-miracle is like less then $3 and even though it says to wash it out after 3 minutes, leave it in, it makes they hair better escpescially after it dries.

That you say you condition it everyday. You should try to wash your hair every other day. When you wash it everyday you wash out the natural oils your body produces. When I moved my hair got really dry and felt awful, so I started doing that, and only buying shampoo that has moisturizer in it. It was hard to do since I was use to washing it everyday, but it really did help. When you get your hair done ask your beautician about it. Good luck!

I use a leave-in conditioner called Kolesterol for softness and Natural Instincts Shine Happy for shine. Go easy on the Shine Happy and only use it once in a while though because it contains peroxide.

I have ultra thick hair and that can be a beautiful thing.

I Use herbal essences shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. I works great and does't cost a fortune. I also use citrus shine gloss spray on my dry hair it shine it up and my hair does what i want it to do. It is a concentrated spray so dont use too much, just spray on and work it in. The frizz ease shine spray works just as well and is also concentrated.

Have you ever tried biosilk lotion? I've used that and it's great. My sister has hair like yours and she goes to wal mart and there's a section for african american hair and gets this lotion in a pink bottle that's called "pink" I believe. Works very well in her hair. I wouldn't use any drug store stuff except for that. If you can find shampoos and conditioners with either hemp or silicone ingredients such as biolage they're great as well. I have used paul mitchell and I hate it and I've tried redken and hate it. My hair dresser even agrees w/me. She hates paul mitchell too. It is so over rated. Biosilk is really good stuff though. The silicone really calms your hair down. ALSO, next time you're in the salon, ask for a reconstruction treatment. It's only 5 bucks where I go. They use heavy duty conditioner, put plastic wrap over it and sit you under a drier. Try glossing polish too. I buy a brand called proclaim from sallys beauty supply. Good luck girlie!!
