Unfortunately it is really really hard to get those type of curls. You'll probably need to experiment with several things to find something that works for you. Three suggestions you might not have thought of.

1. Hot rollers: You need to put some type of curl holding spray in before you put them in. Hold the curler at the root (but be careful not to burn yourself) and then wrap the hair around the curler until you get to the end. Then clip it and do the next section. Use all small rollers to get the best effect. Afterwards you may need to scrunch or fix it a little with your hands. But the more you touch it the more the curl will come out.

2. Curling iron: Get one with a medium barrel. Do the same thing as w/ the hot rollers. Hold the iron at the base, and then wrap the hair around it. This can take a lot of time bec ause you're doing each curl one by one.

3. Perm: This lasts for 6 months. You go to the salon, and ask for a perm using the biggest rollers they have. Tell them to do a spiral perm (bascially they are spiraling the hair around the rollers instead of rolling them). When you get finished your hair will probably look weird (a little too tight). But still follow the salons instructions. Don't wash your hair for 48 hours. Use hair powder to keep your hair from getting greasy the 2nd day. In a few weeks the curls will settle a little bit and they'll be great. Once you have the perm use Aussie Sprunch Spray. It gives me the perfect amount of hold for that kind of messy wavy or curly style. Permed hair is so much easier to style because you just scrunch and go. Just make sure to use the biggest rollers.
