also, if a woman with curly hair straightens it and has it layered, will it be puffy or have too much volume when returned to curls?

it depends if your hair is thick or thin. just go to a hair dresser and tell them to do what they think is best. just dont ask for alot off in case you dont like it. you can always get it fixed. my advice from personal experience is dont go to a place at the mall or anywhere cheap. the ppl there usually dont have as much experience as someone at a salon. go somewhere and spend some good money and get a cut you will be happy with. i dont really know an exact cut for you seeing as you dont have a picture of yourself up. i hope this helps tho.
